A Southwest Airlines aircraft sustained damage on Sunday when it was struck by a ground equipment vehicle while passengers were in the process of boarding at Memphis International Airport. The incident occurred with Southwest Flight 4013.

An airline representative confirmed that the contact between the ground vehicle and the aircraft took place during the boarding process at the Memphis airport. Following the collision, Southwest stated that Flight 4013 was removed from service.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported among passengers or crew members. The airline released a statement detailing the event: “Southwest Flight 4013 was contacted by a ground equipment vehicle during boarding today at Memphis International Airport.”

The airport authority also acknowledged the occurrence, describing it as an isolated event. A statement from the Memphis Shelby County Airport Authority read: “Memphis Shelby County Airport Authority can confirm that an isolated incident occurred today at Memphis International Airport.”
Passenger Rerouting and Delays
Passengers aboard the affected flight were rerouted to an alternate aircraft to continue their journey. While initially, it was indicated that the replacement plane would proceed to Dallas, the airline’s website ultimately listed Flight 4013 as resuming service to Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. Reports indicate that passengers experienced a departure delay of nearly four hours, with the flight now expected to arrive around 5:30 p.m. instead of its originally scheduled 1:50 p.m. arrival time.

Southwest Airlines has announced that a thorough investigation into the incident is being conducted. The airline emphasized its commitment to safety, stating, “The event will be investigated through our comprehensive Safety Management System.
