World Cup Shooting Suspect May Be Deceased, Authorities Say
Investigation Intensifies as Suspect in World Cup Area Shootings Potentially Found
Authorities are cautiously optimistic that the individual responsible for a series of highway shootings near the FIFA World Cup festivities in Kansas City, Missouri, may no longer be a threat. While the U.S. Attorney’s office believes they have located the suspect, confirmation of his status remains pending.
Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche shared his assessment, stating that 22-year-old Oscar Sanchez-Munoz, allegedly linked to multiple incidents of gunfire on roadways surrounding Arrowhead Stadium, is believed to be deceased. “We think we got him tracked to a house in Missouri. We’re still looking into whether he’s there and what condition he’s in,” Blanche stated in a recent interview.
The FBI’s Kansas City field office had previously announced a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Sanchez-Munoz, who was considered armed and dangerous. The extensive, multi-agency search commenced last week after investigators reported the suspect allegedly fired upon several vehicles along Interstate 70 within the city. These incidents resulted in at least one fatality and several injuries.
Blanche expressed hope for a swift resolution, adding, “He’s out there allegedly just shooting multiple different places and you have somebody dead — and so hopefully, we got him.”
Police Maintain Vigilance Amidst Developing Information
Despite the Attorney General’s belief, law enforcement officials are maintaining a vigilant stance. A spokesperson for the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department indicated that their investigators have not yet received any confirmation regarding the suspect being found deceased. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the suspect’s whereabouts and condition.
Further details are anticipated to be released by Attorney General Blanche’s office on Monday as the situation develops.
