Tyler Feehan’s Family Honors Fallen Soldier’s Zeal for Service
The family of Army 1st Lt. Tyler Feehan, who was killed in an Iranian drone attack in Jordan, is remembering him as a courageous individual with an unyielding passion for life and service. In an exclusive interview, his mother, Shari Feehan, and fiancée, Claire Fletcher, shared poignant details about his final resting place and his profound excitement for his Middle East deployment.
A Soldier’s Eager Anticipation
Fletcher recounted Feehan’s palpable enthusiasm for his assignment. “He was so excited to go,” she stated. “He was just so excited to finally do his job that he’s been training for and working towards, and he was so excited to get out there and make a difference and change lives.” While the prospect of his deployment brought sadness, Fletcher also shared in his eagerness for him to pursue his calling, with the ultimate hope that he would “come home.”
She further described his consistently positive outlook, even amidst the inherent dangers of his mission. “He was positive the entire time, and he was always like, ‘Oh yeah, I did so great today. We shot down 10 missiles,’” Fletcher recalled, highlighting his upbeat spirit and dedication to his duties.
A Legacy of Service
The Feehan family emphasized the deep-rooted importance of military service within their lineage. “He [Tyler] loved serving his country. His father did 26 years in the Army, and so the military and the country have always been very important to our family, and he carried that legacy on,” Shari Feehan explained. Tyler Feehan was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
A Peaceful Final Resting Place
The 25-year-old soldier was laid to rest in Georgia on Friday. His final resting place at the Georgia National Cemetery is particularly meaningful as he was interred directly beside his grandfather, a Vietnam War veteran who passed away just days after Tyler’s death in Jordan. “Georgia National Cemetery, where Tyler is laid to rest with his grandfather, is just such a beautiful, peaceful place for our son,” his mother shared. “They were together and very close in life, and now they can rest next to each other.”
A Nation’s Pride and Presidential Condolences
Shari Feehan expressed gratitude for the outpouring of national support. “We are so proud of him, and it’s just so touching that the country is also sharing in that pride with us,” she said. The family also had the opportunity to fly back to Georgia aboard Air Force One, an invitation extended by President Donald Trump. “It was such a nice experience to be able to meet and talk with the president,” Feehan’s mother reflected. “I feel like he was very genuine in speaking with us, and we got to let him know a little bit more about Tyler and the wonderful young man that he was.”
Posthumous Honors
In recognition of his service and sacrifice, Tyler Feehan will be posthumously awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Combat Action Badge. These honors underscore his bravery and commitment to his country.
The attack on July 18 at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan resulted in the deaths of three U.S. service members, including Lt. Feehan. The incident has prompted renewed attention to the security challenges faced by U.S. forces operating in the region.
