Jordyn Tyson’s Hamstring Injury Could Sideline Saints Rookie for Two Months
Rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, a highly anticipated first-round pick for the New Orleans Saints, is facing a significant setback just as his NFL career was set to begin. Tyson suffered a hamstring injury during a joint training camp practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars last Thursday, an injury that could potentially sideline him for up to two months. This timeline means the speedy receiver might miss the crucial early portion of the 2026 NFL season.
Early Career Interrupted
The 22-year-old Arizona State product, selected eighth overall by the Saints in the April draft, sustained the injury during a practice session. Saints head coach Kellen Moore, entering his second year at the helm, indicated the day after the incident that the injury could indeed keep Tyson out through the start of the regular season. If the current two-month recovery projection holds, Tyson could be looking at a minimum of five missed games.
Reports circulated that Tyson sought multiple medical opinions regarding his hamstring, sparking considerable discussion among fans online about the potential severity and duration of his absence. A two-month layoff would place his potential return around Week 6, with the Saints scheduled to face the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium, followed by a trip to Paris for an NFL International Game.
Addressing Injury History Concerns
Tyson had experienced hamstring issues during his collegiate career at Arizona State. However, Coach Moore was quick to dismiss any notion that this current injury was directly linked to his past problems. “I think my understanding of this one, any player that was put in his situation where your foot slips and you get shoved from behind, this has nothing to do with Jordyn’s history,” Moore stated, as reported by ESPN. “Any player in that situation probably has the same diagnosis coming out of this.”
Moore emphasized that Tyson had been a consistent participant in training camp practices prior to the injury and was making a strong impression. “He’s played really good football,” Moore commented. “Inevitably, this is the unfortunate part of what preseason and training camp football is. We’ve already had a few of these guys, that you just have something that comes up and… we’ll just work through it. He’ll be fine. We’ll get through this, and he’ll be good to go.”
Saints’ Offensive Outlook
The Saints are aiming to build on the positive momentum the team generated in the latter half of the previous season. A key factor in that improvement was the emergence of quarterback Tyler Shough, a second-round selection from the prior year, who took over as the starting signal-caller. With Shough having a full offseason to prepare as the established starter, the Saints’ front office focused on bolstering his offensive arsenal.
Tyson was a significant addition, having captured the attention of NFL scouts with a standout 2024 season where he amassed 1,101 receiving yards. While he did contend with hamstring problems in 2025, limiting him to nine games, he still managed an impressive 61 receptions for 711 yards and eight touchdowns during that period.
Beyond Tyson, the Saints have made other key moves to strengthen their offense. The team secured top receiver Chris Olave with a contract extension before the season’s commencement. They also added running back Travis Etienne Jr. this offseason on a four-year, $48 million deal, and veteran running back Alvin Kamara is also returning, forming a potent backfield duo.
Focus on Recovery
Despite the team’s other offensive acquisitions, the immediate priority for Jordyn Tyson is his recovery. The Saints will be counting on their first-round talent to return to full health and contribute on the field as soon as possible, with the regular season fast approaching.
