Grant Siler’s right leg is scheduled to be amputated above the knee due to severe tissue damage sustained during an incident on August 3rd, when temperatures soared to a blistering 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
A Walk Gone Terribly Wrong
Siler was on a routine walk when he fell, his body temperature rapidly climbing to over 105 degrees. According to a GoFundMe campaign established by his family, he lay on the scorching pavement for at least an hour before a concerned passerby discovered him. The ordeal left him with second and third-degree burns across multiple areas of his body, severe heat stroke, and multiple organ shock.
He was rushed to a specialized burn intensive care unit in Las Vegas, where medical professionals have been treating him. Upon arrival, doctors confirmed the severity of his condition, noting the heat stroke and organ distress. Updates on the fundraising page detail his ongoing struggle, stating, “He is in constant pain, can barely move, and has undergone two debridements. Also, he will soon need to undergo surgery for amputation, the extent is not yet known.”
The Devastating Discovery and Amputation Decision
During a surgical procedure, physicians discovered that the tissue in Siler’s right leg was so extensively damaged that full healing was deemed highly improbable. This grim finding led to the decision for an above-the-knee amputation. “The plan now is to have an above-knee amputation. The Dr’s feel he will overall heal faster and have better pain control this way,” the fundraiser reads. “We can all imagine that after any amputation, the road to recovery is long and hard…physically, mentally and emotionally.”
