Coast Guard Helicopter Crashes Near Sitka, Injuring Four

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter went down Monday during a training exercise in a remote area outside Sitka, Alaska, leaving four crew members with injuries. The MH-60 Jayhawk aircraft experienced a crash near Harbor Mountain, an area with minimal population, according to an official announcement.

Incident Details and Rescue Efforts

Officials at the Arctic District command center received notification of the downed helicopter shortly after 10 a.m. local time. Emergency response teams from Sitka Fire and Rescue were dispatched and reached the crash site around 11 a.m. All four individuals on board were successfully extricated and transported to Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center for medical attention. No fatalities have been reported in connection with the incident.

Statement from Coast Guard Commander

Rear Adm. Bob Little, who commands the Coast Guard’s Arctic District, expressed his relief regarding the outcome. “We are incredibly relieved our crew members survived with only minor injuries,” Little stated. The exact cause of the crash is currently unknown and is the subject of an ongoing investigation.

Recent Aviation Incidents

This helicopter crash follows a series of other aviation events in recent weeks. Earlier this week, a business jet reportedly crashed onto a highway in Laredo, Texas, resulting in one fatality. Additionally, a B-52 bomber crashed during a test flight at Edwards Air Force Base in California on June 15, claiming the lives of all eight individuals on board. The preceding day, a plane carrying skydivers crashed near an airport in Missouri, killing twelve people.
