11 Charged in Multi-State Trafficking Ring Involving Sex, Drugs, and Guns

Federal prosecutors have unsealed a sweeping indictment against 11 individuals, primarily Venezuelan and Colombian nationals, accused of a wide range of criminal activities including sex trafficking of a minor and an adult, drug distribution, and illegal firearms trafficking across multiple states. The Justice Department announced Tuesday that ten of the defendants were apprehended during coordinated law enforcement actions in Ohio, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Florida, while one remains at large. Officials noted that ten of the eleven charged are believed to be in the United States unlawfully.

Sweeping Indictment Details Alleged Criminal Enterprise

The 30-count federal indictment, initially returned on June 11 and unsealed this week, outlines a criminal conspiracy that allegedly operated between July and August 2025. According to the charges, four of the defendants are accused of conspiring to traffic a minor and an adult woman for sexual exploitation. The Justice Department’s announcement presented some conflicting information regarding the age of the minor victim, referencing the individual as both 17 years old and 14 years old in different parts of the statement, including a quote from the U.S. Attorney.

Prosecutors allege that the defendants traveled across state lines to facilitate prostitution and created online advertisements for commercial sex services, primarily in the central Ohio region. Beyond the alleged sex trafficking operation, the group is also accused of distributing controlled substances, including ecstasy, and trafficking firearms. The indictment specifies that at least nine guns were involved in the alleged trafficking scheme. Furthermore, some defendants face accusations of illegally possessing firearms while residing in the United States.

Officials Vow Prosecution for Illicit Activities

U.S. Attorney Dominick S. Gerace II emphasized the severity of the alleged crimes, stating, “These defendants — ten of whom are currently illegally present in this country — allegedly engaged in a panoply of illicit trafficking activity, from drugs to firearms to human beings.” He added, “We have no tolerance for anybody who commits such crimes in our communities, and we will prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.”

The investigation leading to these charges was spearheaded by a Homeland Security Task Force. FBI Cincinnati Special Agent in Charge Jason Cromartie affirmed the commitment to public safety, saying, “We will continue to work hard to keep Ohio safe and get narcotics, firearms, and violent criminals off the streets.”

Acting Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Detroit Special Agent in Charge Jared Murphey highlighted the task force’s dedication to combating transnational criminal organizations. He noted that the indictment serves as a testament to the group’s efforts to protect communities from those who exploit vulnerable individuals while engaging in drug and firearms trafficking.

Defendants Identified Across Multiple States

Among those charged are six individuals reportedly residing in Ohio. These include:

Two additional defendants, both Venezuelan nationals, are reported to be living in Tennessee:

Initiative Targets Transnational Criminal Activity

The Justice Department indicated that this case is part of a broader initiative established under a presidential executive order aimed at combating transnational criminal organizations, foreign gangs, human trafficking networks, and individuals unlawfully present in the United States who are involved in criminal activities. The initiative specifically targets those accused of exploiting vulnerable populations and engaging in serious criminal enterprises.

It is important to note that an indictment contains allegations only. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. Efforts were made to seek clarification from the Justice Department regarding the discrepancy in the alleged victim’s age mentioned in the announcement, and the story would be updated if a response were received.
