A Florida social media influencer and her husband face felony child neglect charges after authorities say they left two young children unattended in a Key Largo hotel room for nearly an hour while they were drinking at the resort’s pool. The incident occurred over the recent Fourth of July holiday weekend, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Allegations Surface at Key Largo Resort
Deputies were dispatched to the Reefhouse Resort & Marina in Key Largo around 1:45 p.m. on a Saturday. Hotel staff had reportedly entered a guest room after becoming concerned about a baby who had been crying persistently. Upon entering, employees discovered two small children left alone in nursery beds.
Investigators were subsequently called to the scene. They determined that the children had been left unattended for an estimated 40 minutes to an hour. During this time, resort employees eventually located the parents, identified as 40-year-old Allison Sirica Cannella and 43-year-old Brian Nicholas Cannella, both of Delray Beach, at the hotel’s pool area. Records indicate the couple had been consuming alcoholic beverages.
Charges Filed and Children Placed in Care
Following the investigation, both Allison and Brian Cannella were arrested and charged with two felony counts of child neglect. Jail records confirmed their booking into the Monroe County Jail. Their initial court appearance was slated for September 1.
Fortunately, authorities reported that neither child sustained serious physical injuries. The Florida Department of Children and Families was alerted to the situation. The children were temporarily placed with a family friend pending the arrival of child welfare officials, who took over their care.
Public Image vs. Alleged Actions
The arrest presents a stark contrast to Allison Cannella’s carefully curated public persona. Her social media presence and professional life often highlight luxury real estate, home renovations, and a sophisticated Florida lifestyle. Her private Instagram account, for instance, showcases high-end properties, design projects, and content related to her work as a lawyer and real estate investor.
Cannella is also associated with Exhale Vacation Rentals and an online shop featuring items from her renovation and design ventures. She was previously featured in “Atlantic Ave Magazine” for her successful renovation of luxury vacation rental properties, with one project reportedly more than doubling its annual rental revenue after a significant redesign.
Professionally, Cannella’s biography suggests extensive experience, boasting over 15 years in real estate and legal fields. Her career has reportedly involved handling more than $25 billion in real estate and corporate transactions. She holds a position as senior vice president and general counsel, with prior experience in commercial real estate law.
Legal Proceedings and Further Inquiries
As the legal process unfolds, the Cannellas await their court date. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, along with representatives for the Cannellas and Exhale Vacation Rentals, were reportedly contacted for further comment following the arrests, though immediate responses were not always forthcoming.
The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the responsibilities that come with parenthood, regardless of one’s public profile or professional achievements. The focus now shifts to the legal proceedings and the ongoing involvement of child welfare agencies to ensure the safety and well-being of the children involved.
