This operation, conducted on June 18 by the agency’s Harlingen, Texas, field office in collaboration with various law enforcement partners, has been identified by ICE as a record-breaking event for targeted arrests in the Rio Grande Valley.

The sheer volume of arrests on June 18 marks the highest number of targeted apprehensions for ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in the Harlingen area for a single day. The agency stated that the individuals taken into custody had criminal histories that included offenses such as attempted kidnapping, sexual battery, and drug possession.
Juan Agudelo, the Director of the ICE Harlingen Field Office, emphasized the agency’s ongoing commitment to public safety and the integrity of the nation’s immigration system. “The ICE mission continues to focus on enhancing public safety and restoring integrity to our nation’s immigration system,” Agudelo stated. “We will stop at nothing to keep our American communities safe by removing one criminal illegal alien at a time.”

Among those arrested was Manuel Morales-Geronimo, a national of Mexico identified by authorities as a member of the Paisas gang. ICE records indicate Morales-Geronimo has a prior conviction history that includes assault causing bodily injury, possession of controlled substances and marijuana, driving while intoxicated, illegal entry into the United States, and multiple counts of illegal reentry.
Another individual apprehended was Jose Alfredo Castillo-Mendoza, also from Mexico. According to ICE, his previous convictions include attempted kidnapping, sexual battery, and illegal reentry.

In a social media post, Trump expressed strong opposition to such a pause, stating, “We CANNOT give up one of ICE’s most important and effective Crime Fighting tools, THE TRAFFIC STOP!” He further commented that any such policy shift would be “playing right into the criminal’s [sic] hands.” The scrutiny surrounding traffic stops had reportedly intensified following some fatal encounters during immigration enforcement activities.
