New York Knicks owner James Dolan confirmed Wednesday that the team has received and accepted an invitation to visit the White House to commemorate their recent NBA championship victory. This stands in contrast to the Seattle Seahawks, whose own Super Bowl celebration visit to the nation’s capital appears to be indefinitely postponed.

Knicks Set for White House Commemoration

During an appearance on WFAN New York’s “The Carton Show,” Dolan stated, “We just did receive an invitation from the White House, which we accepted.” He added that while details are still being ironed out, the team is eager to participate. Dolan also mentioned his personal connection to President Donald Trump, whom he has known for three decades, and expressed his pride in bringing the championship-winning team to Washington D.C.

President Trump was present for Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, a contest that saw the Knicks suffer their sole loss in the series before ultimately clinching the championship 4-1.

The specifics of the Knicks’ White House visit, including the date, the size of the delegation, and player attendance, are still under discussion. Nevertheless, the swift move to arrange the Knicks’ visit highlights a stark difference in the planning process compared to the Seahawks.

Seahawks Super Bowl Visit in Limbo

Despite winning Super Bowl LX against the New England Patriots on February 8, the Seattle Seahawks have yet to secure a date for a White House celebration. When reached for comment, the White House press office indicated, “We don’t have anything to share at this time. Check back in with us later!”

The timing for such visits is crucial. The Philadelphia Eagles, the most recent NFL team to be honored at the White House, celebrated their Super Bowl LIX championship on April 28, 2025. This occurred during their offseason, a period conducive to such events.

For the Seahawks, however, mandatory minicamp concluded on June 11, leaving players, staff, and coaches dispersed for their summer breaks. The organization is not expected to reconvene fully until late July, just before the commencement of training camp. This schedule significantly complicates the logistics of arranging a visit to Washington D.C., making it highly improbable that players on vacation would be able to travel for a ceremony. Furthermore, teams are unlikely to interrupt their demanding training camp schedules for a cross-country trip.

Potential Roadblocks and Unanswered Questions

This situation raises the distinct possibility that the Seahawks may not have a White House visit to celebrate their Super Bowl victory at all. The underlying question then becomes: why? There is speculation about whether the White House extended an invitation through unofficial channels and was subsequently declined by the team, a scenario that has precedent. A similar situation arose with the Eagles in 2018.

One potential, albeit unlikely, pathway to salvaging a Seahawks visit would be to schedule it during the NFL regular season. The team is slated to play the Washington Commanders on September 27. This could theoretically allow for a brief stop at the White House on the day before the game. However, such a deviation from established NFL travel protocols is considered highly improbable, as coaches typically prioritize maintaining their regular routines for away games, viewing them strictly as business obligations rather than opportunities for extracurricular activities.
