Larry David Expresses Disappointment Over White House UFC Event

Comedian Voices Strong Disapproval of Presidential Celebration

Veteran comedian Larry David has voiced significant criticism regarding a recent White House event that featured a UFC fight, stating that the spectacle left him feeling profoundly uncomfortable with his national identity. In a recent conversation with Variety, David did not hold back his assessment of the occasion.

“It was a travesty,” David remarked to the publication, referring to the mixed martial arts event hosted at the executive residence. “What else can you say about it?” The 78-year-old performer went on to describe a sense of alienation from his country following the event.

“It was embarrassing,” he continued. “I was embarrassed to be an American.”

Context of Remarks and New Project

David’s candid comments emerged during the premiere of his latest HBO series, titled “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness.” The show, slated to debut on June 26, incorporates sketch comedy that satirizes significant moments in American history. The series boasts an impressive roster of guest stars, including Jerry Seinfeld, Vince Vaughn, Rita Wilson, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and former President Barack Obama.

The project was produced by Obama’s company, Higher Ground. David shared his positive impressions of the former president’s contributions to the show, noting that Obama “is really good at ad-libbing.”

Details of the White House Event

The UFC event, identified as UFC Freedom 250, was held in observance of President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday. Reports indicate the gathering drew an attendance of approximately 4,300 individuals, among them 1,200 active-duty service members. The festivities included a rendition of the national anthem performed by the Marine Band alongside musical artist Zac Brown, and culminated in a ceremonial flyover by the Navy’s Blue Angels and the Air Force Thunderbirds.

Prior to departing for the G7 summit in France, the President described the event to reporters as “beyond anything that anybody’s ever seen in sports.”
