Wrestler Matt Cardona Expresses Hope for Cody Rhodes’ Title Defense
Amidst growing tensions and a highly anticipated championship bout, professional wrestler Matt Cardona has voiced his preference for Cody Rhodes to retain his title at the upcoming Night of Champions event. The sentiment stems from Cardona’s personal ambition to challenge and defeat Rhodes for the WWE Championship.
The championship match features a compelling triple threat, with Sami Zayn and Gunther also vying for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Zayn, in particular, has been vocal about his perceived slights, expressing frustration over being overlooked for title opportunities in favor of Rhodes and Gunther. His recent actions, including interfering in a special guest referee match, have escalated the rivalry, leading Rhodes to book the current championship scenario.
Cardona’s Strategic Ambitions
Analyzing Zayn’s prospects, Cardona commented on the challenger’s unpredictable nature. “Sami Zayn, he has nothing to lose,” Cardona stated. “How many times has he been put in a similar situation and lost? If he loses again, no big deal, but that’s what makes him dangerous. He will do anything to win this match.”
However, Cardona’s personal aspirations clearly align with Rhodes remaining champion. “Personally, I’m hoping it’s Cody because I want to be the WWE champion and if I beat anybody, I want to have beaten Cody Rhodes,” he explained. Cardona also pointed to a past encounter, noting, “People don’t know this, Cody’s last match before WWE before he left was against me and I beat him.”
Night of Champions Card Features Multiple Title Defenses
The Night of Champions event is set to showcase several championship contests. In addition to the main event for the Undisputed WWE Championship, the card includes Trick Williams defending the United States Championship against Ricky Saints. Tiffany Stratton will also put her Women’s United States Championship on the line against Jade Cargill.
Night of Champions is scheduled to commence at 1 p.m. ET and will be available for viewing.
