Airport Worker Fatally Struck by Passenger Jet in Montreal
A tragic incident at Montréal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) has resulted in the death of a ground-handling employee. The worker was fatally struck by a passenger jet on Monday during ground operations, according to officials.
Tragic Accident During Ground Operations
The fatality occurred involving an Airbus A350 operated by French Bee, a French low-cost carrier. The incident took place as the aircraft was preparing for departure on Flight BF5761, bound for Paris-Orly. While the exact sequence of events is still under investigation by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB), it is understood to have happened during the aircraft’s pushback procedure.
The employee who lost their life was employed by Samsic, a company contracted for ground handling services at the airport. Airport officials have not yet released the identity of the deceased.

French Bee issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the incident. “The airline extends its deepest condolences to the individual’s family and loved ones, as well as its support to colleagues and all teams affected by this event,” a spokesperson said. The airline confirmed its full cooperation with Canadian authorities leading the investigation, providing all necessary assistance.
Aeéroports de Montréal (ADM), the airport authority, also released a statement conveying its profound sadness. Yves Beauchamp, president and chief executive officer of ADM, stated, “The loss of a member of our airport community affects us all deeply.” He added, “During this difficult time, our thoughts are with the employee’s family, loved ones and colleagues, to whom we extend our heartfelt sympathy and sincere condolences.” ADM officials noted that they worked with partners to offer support to both employees and passengers who may have witnessed the tragic event. The authority is also collaborating closely with the investigating bodies from the very beginning of their work.
Ongoing Investigations
The Quebec coroner’s office has been notified and has commenced its own investigation into the causes and circumstances surrounding the death. ADM has stated that it will refrain from making further comments out of respect for the victim and their family, directing all media inquiries to the authorities responsible for the investigation. Both Samsic and the TSB were contacted for additional information regarding the incident.
Recent Airport Fatalities
This unfortunate event in Montreal is not the first fatal incident to occur at a major North American airport in recent months. Earlier in the year, an airport worker at Orlando International Airport tragically died after an airport tug vehicle collided with a jet bridge. In a separate incident around the same period, a person walking on a runway at Denver International Airport was struck and killed by a Frontier Airlines jet.
