New Jersey Beach Hosts “War on the Shore 3” Pro Wrestling Event
Professional wrestling, a spectacle blending athletic prowess with captivating narratives, is set to make a splash on the sands of Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey. Fight Factory Wrestling (FFW) is bringing its signature blend of hard-hitting action and engaging storylines to the shore for the third installment of “The War on the Shore” on July 14th. This unique event aims to combine the thrill of live wrestling with the laid-back atmosphere of a summer beach day, offering an unforgettable experience for fans.
From Podcast to Beach Bouts: The Genesis of FFW
The journey of Fight Factory Wrestling is a story of rekindled passion and entrepreneurial spirit. Dave Sturchio, one of the driving forces behind FFW, shared the origins of the promotion with a focus on its beachside ambitions. Sturchio and his partner, Chris Payne, first entered the wrestling scene as performers in 2012. While their paths diverged for a time, they reunited in 2024, launching the “Fight Factory Podcast.” It was during this reunion that Payne’s long-held dream of hosting a wrestling event on the beach, reminiscent of World Championship Wrestling’s iconic “Bash at the Beach,” began to take shape.
Initially hesitant about diving back into the creative aspects of the wrestling business, Sturchio found himself drawn to Payne’s vision. “I called Payne to follow through on doing a beach show despite some apprehension about getting involved into the creative side of the sport,” Sturchio recalled. The initial approach to the venue involved some deliberation, but Sturchio’s return with a well-thought-out plan secured their agreement.
“As the buzz started to develop and build over prepping for the show, I said to Payne, ‘I don’t know if this is a one off. I think that we have something here,’” Sturchio explained. Drawing on his entrepreneurial background and lifelong passion for wrestling, Sturchio saw an opportunity to merge his business acumen with his love for the sport. “I’m already an entrepreneur at heart, so how can I take my entrepreneurial stuff for the last three-four years of being my own boss, how do I spin this into becoming a pro wrestling promoter?” he mused. The partnership with Payne, he felt, was the perfect alignment of stars to build something significant.
“The War on the Shore”: A Resounding Success
The response to the inaugural “War on the Shore” in 2024, Sturchio noted, was “overwhelming.” The event tapped into a summer demand for wrestling that often goes unmet, as many independent promotions scale back during the hotter months. “People are actually jones-ing for some wrestling in the summer. Typically, when you go to a VFW or your gymnasiums, independent wrestling kind of takes off and they don’t run as much in the summer because it’s hot,” Sturchio observed.
Interestingly, the initial event was scheduled for a Tuesday night, a slot Sturchio initially feared might deter attendance. However, the lack of competing events on a weeknight proved advantageous. “Turns out, nobody is really doing anything on a Tuesday. It was very easy to book the wrestlers in that regard because nobody else had anything going on,” he said. The success was so pronounced that even a high-profile booking like Matt Cardona, who famously appeared despite a pectoral injury, was impressed. “If you’re going to blow away Matt Cardona, I think we got something. It was off to the races, man,” Sturchio added.
A Stacked Card for the Third Annual Event
Fight Factory Wrestling is pulling out all the stops for “The War on the Shore 3,” promising a card packed with compelling matchups and unique stipulations. Sturchio emphasized a deliberate approach to booking, focusing on building a consistent roster of talent that has proven their worth.
“This year, we really stacked the deck,” Sturchio stated. “Some professional wrestling shows you go to on the independents, there are those lulls. Matches where you’re like, ‘Oh, they’re giving this guy a chance over here and they’re gonna give this guy a chance over there.’ This year, I told Payne, look, based off of everybody that we’ve booked so far, for me, and some independent wrestlers don’t want to hear this, we’re trying to build a roster, build a core roster. Meaning, if we used you before and you’ve done good work, we’re gonna use you again. Instead of saying, hey, random guy over here, who I don’t know who you are, but let’s give you a shot. So we’re trying to build stories and there are a lot of stories that are culminating.”
Key Matchups and Special Attractions:
- The Heavenly Bodies Reunite: Justin and Mark Corino, a tag team Sturchio has known since his early days in wrestling, will reform The Heavenly Bodies for the first time in seven years.
- Championship Defense: Ben Bishop will put his Fight Factory Premier Championship on the line in a triple-threat match against Richard Holliday and Jack Vaughn.
- Dream Match: Joey Janela is set to face Jay Lethal in a highly anticipated first-time encounter.
- Women’s Division Showcase: Lady Frost will go head-to-head with Steph De Lander and Allie Katch in a dynamic women’s bout.
- Unique Stipulation Match: The event will feature a special match involving a “tiki totem on a pole,” serving as FFW’s unique take on the popular “Money in the Bank” concept, adding an element of unpredictable excitement.
The event is scheduled to take place near Martell’s Tiki Bar in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey. Beyond the featured bouts, a rumble match is also on the card, ensuring a full evening of wrestling action. Sturchio expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The card is stacked. I’m very excited about all of it. There’s not one lull. We’re just going to roll right through and I think it’s going to be one of those nights that we remember for a very, very long time.”
A Wrestling Spectacle by the Sea
Fight Factory Wrestling’s “War on the Shore 3” promises more than just a wrestling show; it’s an experience designed to capture the spirit of summer and the excitement of professional wrestling. By choosing a unique beachside venue, FFW aims to create a memorable event that stands out in the independent wrestling landscape. Fans can anticipate a night filled with high-stakes action, compelling rivalries, and the distinctive atmosphere that only a wrestling event by the ocean can provide.
