A New York grandmother, Alisa Goods, who vanished earlier this month while visiting Las Vegas, has been discovered deceased, her family confirmed on Friday. The 63-year-old mother of five was last seen on August 8th, departing a friend’s residence near Maryland Parkway and Tropicana Avenue. Her disappearance was reported on August 10th.
Authorities were alerted early Thursday morning by a report of a deceased woman found in a drainage area adjacent to Wayne Newton Boulevard and the Terminal 1 parking garage at Harry Reid International Airport. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers responded to the scene and located a woman, later identified as Goods, who was pronounced dead.
“Our hearts are broken. We were notified that my aunt was found—unfortunately, not the way we wanted her to be,” stated Alana Calloway, Goods’ niece, in a message shared with local media. “This is an unimaginable time. Words cannot describe the pain our family is experiencing right now. We just want to thank the public for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers. We also want to thank the media for helping bring attention to this situation. This hurts so deeply. We are still trying to learn the details surrounding her death. We ask for continued prayers and privacy as we grieve.”
Investigation into Disappearance and Discovery
Review of surveillance footage by police appeared to capture Goods on August 8th, the day she disappeared. The video showed her falling down an embankment, getting back up, and then collapsing, with no further movement observed. Additional surveillance footage from later that day reportedly showed a woman believed to be Goods in the vicinity of the airport.
Goods had been staying with a long-time friend, Roger John. He recounted that she left his apartment around 12:45 p.m. on August 8th, intending to take a bus to a nearby CVS pharmacy to purchase iron pills. She never returned. “Last I saw her, she was going down the stairs. And I said, ‘OK, see you later,’ And that’s the last time I saw her,” John told reporters. He initially wasn’t overly concerned, as Goods sometimes spent extended periods shopping. However, her failure to return prompted him to try contacting her via phone and text before alerting her family.
“This is not like her to just go missing,” Calloway had previously expressed. “She has a family that loves her, cares about her. We want her home and want her home safe and alive.”
Mysterious Text Messages Emerge
The circumstances surrounding Goods’ vanishing took a perplexing turn when her family began receiving unusual text messages from her phone on August 12th, four days after she was last seen. The messages reportedly requested money for gas and inquired about Bitcoin. These requests immediately raised red flags for the family, as Goods did not own a car in Las Vegas and had no need for gas money.
“I said, ‘What do you need gas for? The car?’ My aunt does not drive. There is no car,” Calloway explained, highlighting the suspicious nature of the communications. The family had previously voiced concerns that Goods might have been abducted, given the strange nature of the texts. As of Friday, the identity of the individual sending the messages remained unclear.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has been contacted for further details regarding the ongoing investigation into Alisa Goods’ death and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
