Ravens WR Rashod Bateman Faces Domestic Charges

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman has surrendered to authorities and is facing three domestic violence charges stemming from an alleged incident in June. The charges involve an alleged attack on his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle while their infant child was present.

Incident Details Emerge

Reports indicate that Bateman, who is entering his sixth NFL season, is accused of using a blunt object to damage the windshield and driver’s side windows of his ex-girlfriend’s 2021 Mercedes-Benz. The alleged confrontation occurred on June 3. According to documents obtained, the victim stated that the shattering glass caused several small lacerations and contusions to her face. Crucially, the couple’s three-month-old child was secured in a car seat in the back of the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Bateman, 26, faces charges including battery-family violence, reckless conduct, and first-degree criminal damage to property. He reportedly turned himself in to law enforcement shortly after the alleged event. The details of the incident did not become public until a report surfaced on Friday.

Ravens Organization Responds

Following the public disclosure of the charges, the Baltimore Ravens issued a statement regarding their starting wide receiver. “We are aware of the situation involving Rashod and have been in direct communication with him,” the team’s statement read. “We notified the league office and have been cooperating throughout the process. As this is a pending legal matter, we will not have further comment.”

It remains unclear exactly when the Ravens organization became aware of the June 3 incident. The team commenced its 2026 training camp in late July, with the first practice session held on July 29. Bateman participated in training camp and has been with the team since its opening.

Notably, Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson expressed his support for Bateman’s presence on the field, telling reporters he was pleased to have one of the team’s key receivers back. This raises questions about whether Bateman kept the arrest confidential during the team’s training camp or if the club was aware of the pending legal matter and allowed him to practice regardless.

Contractual Obligations and Prior Legal History

Rashod Bateman signed a three-year contract extension with the Ravens in June 2025, valued at $36.75 million, with $20 million in guaranteed money. Court records indicate that Bateman had initially been subject to a no-contact order with the mother of his child. However, he later petitioned the court to lift this order, a request that was reportedly granted after the mother agreed. As part of the court’s approval, Bateman was mandated to complete a training program focused on preventing violent behavior.

Broader Context of Domestic Violence in the NFL

The league has seen a significant number of domestic violence cases, arrests, and legal proceedings involving players during recent offseasons. This trend places a spotlight on the NFL’s handling of such issues, particularly in light of its stated initiatives like ‘Inspire Change’ and ‘Choose Love’.

Legal Team’s Statement

Bateman’s legal representatives have issued a statement addressing the charges. “We will let the process play out and the facts will come out at that time,” the statement indicated, suggesting a strategy of allowing the legal proceedings to unfold before presenting a full defense.
