Gronk’s Advice for Caitlin Clark: ‘Keep Shutting Up the Haters’
NFL icon Rob Gronkowski has offered a straightforward piece of advice to rising basketball star Caitlin Clark: let her game do the talking. Amidst the considerable buzz surrounding Clark, Gronkowski shared his perspective in a recent interview, commending her handling of the intense spotlight.
Gronkowski Praises Clark’s Composure
Gronkowski, known for his own dominant presence on the football field, believes Clark is navigating the current media frenzy with remarkable skill. “She’s doing a great job handling herself. She really is,” Gronkowski stated. “I’m not in her shoes. I’m not in her situation. If I was, though, I would kind of handle it very similar to how she’s handling it. She really is doing a great job.”
His primary counsel for the Indiana Fever guard is simple yet effective: “I would just say one piece of advice, keep balling because if you keep balling, you’re going to keep shutting up the haters.”
Team Support is Key
The former New England Patriots tight end also highlighted the crucial role of Clark’s teammates in her success and overall experience. He emphasized that strong team camaraderie is vital for any athlete facing significant pressure.
“What I do appreciate, what she’s going to need to help with is her teammates. That’s who’s going to lift you up,” Gronkowski explained. “If you’ve got your teammates protecting you, that says a lot right there. It really does. And she does. Her team does pick her up. They protect her as well, and that’s huge.”
He added that having teammates in your corner reflects positively on an individual’s character and dedication. “That says a lot about your personality and about who you are throughout the season, how you practice, how you prepare, is that if your teammates are behind you, you know that doing the right things.”
Clark’s Future as a League Face
Looking ahead, Gronkowski suggested that Clark is poised to become a prominent figure in the WNBA, especially if the league takes steps to address the physicality she’s encountering on the court. He believes that once the league more formally embraces her as a centerpiece, and she achieves significant team success, her status will be cemented.
“I think she’s going to be the face eventually, like truly where the WNBA steps in and they’re like, ‘Okay, like enough of all this wishwashing that’s going on with her and the punishment that that she’s taking out on the basketball court. Let’s truly make her to face the league. I think I would say it once she keeps balling out and also wins something pretty significant,” Gronkowski remarked.
He drew a parallel to the NFL and NBA, noting that becoming the undisputed face of a league often takes several years of consistent performance and achievement. “In the NFL and NBA, you don’t become the face of the league until you have about ‘four or five years under their belt’,” he observed.
Gronkowski’s Career Snapshot
Rob Gronkowski is widely regarded as one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history. A four-time Super Bowl champion with the Patriots, he played nine seasons in New England before a brief retirement. He later returned to play two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers alongside Tom Brady, securing another Super Bowl title, before retiring for a second time. Throughout his 11-year career, Gronkowski amassed 621 receptions for 9,286 yards and 92 touchdowns, earning five Pro Bowl selections.
