Actor and comedian Faizon Love was taken into custody in Florida this week stemming from outstanding warrants and is currently being held without bond, according to official jail records. Love, 58, known for his roles in films such as “Elf,” “Friday,” and “Couples Retreat,” was processed into the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office jail system on June 16 following his apprehension by local law enforcement.

Records indicate that Love is detained at Falkenburg Road Jail in Tampa, facing two counts of contempt of court. These charges are reportedly linked to the same case number, with one specifically identified as criminal contempt of court. Jail documentation confirms he remains in custody and is not eligible for bond.

According to booking information, Love’s arrest occurred around 10:48 p.m. on Tuesday, with his booking into the jail taking place less than an hour later. The alleged offense date associated with these charges is noted as May 15, 2026.

Sources familiar with the matter suggest the warrants were issued after Love allegedly failed to appear for a scheduled child support hearing. Court documents related to the arrest classify the case as a domestic relations matter. Further specifics regarding the underlying allegations have not yet been made public. Love is anticipated to make an appearance before a judge in Hillsborough County on Friday.

Career Highlights and Past Legal Issues

Love is widely recognized for his portrayal of department store manager Wanda in the 2003 holiday favorite “Elf,” starring alongside Will Ferrell. His filmography also includes the popular cult classic “Friday,” where he shared the screen with Ice Cube and Chris Tucker, as well as other notable films like “The Replacements,” “Made,” “Blue Crush,” and “Couples Retreat.”

This recent arrest is not the first legal entanglement for Love, who has encountered previous criminal allegations throughout his career. In 2017, Love entered a plea of no contest to a misdemeanor assault charge stemming from an incident with a valet at John Glenn Columbus International Airport in Ohio. At that time, reports indicated he was fined $500 and received a suspended jail sentence of 180 days.

More recently, Love faced a felony assault accusation following an incident in August 2024 at a San Diego hotel. A criminal complaint filed in that case alleges that Love became agitated when a hotel employee informed him that his pre-booked room was unavailable and suggested he pursue a refund. The complaint further states that Love allegedly ripped a credit card reader from its mount and threw it at the employee, striking her in the head and damaging her eyeglasses. The employee subsequently initiated a civil lawsuit seeking compensation for medical costs and alleged physical and emotional distress.

The current status of the San Diego case remains unclear. Inquiries for additional comment have been made to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
