Collin Gosselin Hints at Memoir Fallout for Mom Kate
Collin Gosselin has shared a pointed message on social media, seemingly directed at his mother, Kate Gosselin, just weeks after announcing his upcoming memoir. The memoir is set to detail his experiences growing up under the glare of reality television.
Over the weekend, Collin, now 22, posted a headline from the New York Post to his Instagram stories. The headline read, “Kate Gosselin ‘spiraling’ ahead of estranged son Collin’s bombshell memoir: ‘She knows it’s about to hit the fan.'” Collin chose to blur his mother’s image in the shared post. He also featured a follower’s comment that stated, “What’s done in darkness will always come to light,” according to reports from People magazine.
Sources suggest that Kate Gosselin, 51, is experiencing significant distress over the potential revelations in her estranged son’s book, titled “In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood.” An insider told the Daily Mail that Kate was unaware of the memoir’s development, adding, “Collin hasn’t spoken to his mother since she abandoned him in an institution as a young child.” The source continued, “She didn’t expect any of this to ever come out. Now she’s spiraling because she knows it’s about to hit the fan.”
A Difficult Childhood and Estrangement
The Gosselin family first rose to fame on the TLC reality series “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” which aired from 2007 to 2009. Following the couple’s divorce, the show was rebranded as “Kate Plus 8” and continued until 2017.
Collin’s memoir comes after a period of significant family estrangement. At the age of 12, Collin was sent to the Fairmount Behavioral Health System, a psychiatric facility in Philadelphia, after allegedly being diagnosed with a behavioral disorder. During an episode of “Kate Plus 8,” Kate Gosselin explained her decision, stating, “I was not able, with my own resources here, to meet his needs.” At the time, the show continued to feature his seven siblings, while his father, Jon Gosselin, has claimed he was unaware of Collin’s institutionalization until much later.
Kate Gosselin had full custody of the children following the divorce and maintained that a court order excused her from informing her ex-husband of Collin’s whereabouts. While Kate has reportedly dismissed the claims that will appear in Collin’s book as untrue, sources close to Collin assert that he possesses substantial evidence to support his narrative.
“Kate can’t stop this book from coming out but I have no doubt she wishes she could,” an insider commented.
Siblings Also Unaware of Memoir’s Scope
The memoir’s impending release has reportedly blindsided not only Kate but also Collin’s sextuplet siblings – Aaden, Alexis, Hannah, Joel, and Leah – as well as his older twin sisters, Cara and Madelyn. According to a source, the siblings may not have a full understanding of Collin’s experiences, beyond what their mother has shared with them.
Collin Gosselin Shares His Motivation
Earlier this month, Collin announced his memoir, slated for an October release. He shared a childhood photo of himself with his mother covering his mouth, symbolizing his past silence. In his announcement, Collin expressed his long-held reservations about telling his story.
“For a long time, I wasn’t sure I’d ever tell this story,” Collin wrote. “Growing up, millions of people watched my life on television. People felt like they knew me. They knew my family. They watched me grow up. But there was so much they never saw. For years, I kept those experiences to myself. Some because I was afraid. Some because I didn’t think anyone would believe me. And some because I just wasn’t ready.”
He continued, “Writing this book forced me to revisit some of the hardest moments of my life, but it also gave me something I’ve been searching for for a long time: my voice. This isn’t the story people think they know. It’s the story I’ve lived.”
Representatives for Kate Gosselin did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the memoir and Collin’s recent social media activity.
