Louisiana Man Accused of Killing Wife, Driving Her Body Across State Lines
A chilling case has emerged from Louisiana, where a man is accused of fatally shooting his wife and then transporting her body across state lines, propping her in the passenger seat of his car. Tyronne Brazille, 50, was apprehended in Memphis, Tennessee, on Thursday following a traffic stop that led authorities to discover the body of his wife, Lanessa Bradford, also 50. Officers noted a gunshot wound on the deceased woman, who was seated in the passenger seat of Brazille’s vehicle.
A Plan to Escape, Cut Short
According to friends, Lanessa Bradford had been planning to leave her husband. She had reportedly saved money and devised a strategy to disappear, intending to leave behind her car and belongings to start anew. She had also been in contact with family members living out of state, aiming to make a clean break.
“She had the money saved up. She had come up with a plan, and she was going to just vanish. That was the only way she would be able to get away from him,” said Shelicka Decker, a longtime friend of Bradford. “She was going to leave her car, she was going to leave all the things behind, and she had been in touch with her family that was out of town, and that’s how she was going to make this move to get away.”
Tragedy Strikes Before Escape
However, before Bradford could execute her escape plan, investigators allege that Brazille shot and killed her during an altercation at Independence Community Park in Baton Rouge. Authorities state that Brazille then proceeded to drive through several states with his wife’s body in the car, a journey that ended when he was stopped in Memphis.
Decker expressed profound shock and confusion over the events, questioning Brazille’s state of mind during the prolonged drive with his deceased wife. “I have so many questions, like, what were you doing in the car with her that amount of time while she was deceased,” Decker pondered. “Where was his mind at during that ride? It’s so crazy and heartbreaking.”
History of Threats and Escalating Violence
Decker also revealed that Bradford had mentioned threats from Brazille, including statements about harming himself or her, whenever she brought up the idea of leaving. While Brazille had a history of making such pronouncements, Decker admitted she never truly believed he would act on them.
“He never put his hands on her up until recently, like maybe like two or three months ago,” Decker recalled. “It wouldn’t have surprised me if someone had called and said that he killed himself because he always says this. It surprised me that he killed her.”
Welfare Check Uncovers the Horrific Scene
The grim discovery came about after Bradford, who worked at an elementary school in Baton Rouge, failed to show up for work for several days. Concerned colleagues requested a welfare check at her home, prompting police involvement that ultimately led to the unfolding of this tragic narrative.
“It’s such an unfortunate situation, like everybody, she was such a good person. Everybody, she uplifted people, a lot of parents,” Decker said, her voice filled with sorrow. “My prayers are with her family and friends as well as his, because we were all friends. We all, you know, hung around each other, and this is just not the same person that we grew up with.”
Legal Proceedings Underway
Tyronne Brazille is currently being held in Memphis as a fugitive and is awaiting extradition back to Louisiana. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. Once extradited, Brazille is expected to face a murder charge in connection with the death of Lanessa Bradford.
